When Ketto started, it was all ceramic ware and they still hold a very special place. But how are they made?
The first creative step is the drawing. Julie has fun inventing cool and colourful characters and finding a good spot for them on the dish. She then gives the drawing to skilfull “duplicators” (e.g. Catherine) and makes sure they understand how to reproduce each line. And they catch on so quickly, it’s mind-boggling!
But how do you come up with the ceramics?
Each dish is freehand painted. This technique will produce different units, but that only makes each one more appealing! The colouring comes next, and it involves colour glazing and drawing our favourite motifs around the characters. What happens next, when they are dry? Off to the oven they go, roasting some 8 to 12 hours at temperatures between 1200 and 1400 Celsius. After that step, some pieces might present slight flaws and are put aside. (Nothing to worry about. These are not thrown out. Instead, they are sold at discount prices in a special section of the Avenue Cartier boutique.)
Products are then shipped either to our Cartier Avenue boutique, to other boutiques selling our products or directly to the customer who ordered online*.
As always, the magic created by our colourful characters on the dinnerware endures... They can face the dishwasher and microwave ovens without fainting, I mean fading. They are meant for everyday use.
Ketto dinnerware is sold online, at the Cartier Avenue boutique and at many retail outlets.
